Sustainable forest management

Respect for the forest, in every step.

For us, respect for the forest means sourcing consciously, harvesting selectively, and giving the forest room to regenerate. We work on traceability and transparency wherever this can be factually substantiated per delivery, within the framework of applicable Surinamese law and regulation.

Responsible sourcing

We buy timber through known suppliers and record, per delivery, which species and origin were discussed.

Selective harvesting

Harvesting is targeted rather than clearing a whole forest plot, so the forest keeps its structure and function.

Protecting forest and biodiversity

Careful forest management helps protect the habitat of plants and animals in Suriname's forests.

Regulation and compliance

We comply with applicable Surinamese law and regulation for logging and the timber trade.

Always consult the relevant Surinamese authorities or a legal advisor for current legal requirements.

Tree Knowledge Center

Learn more about Suriname's timber and forests.

A short introduction to Suriname's forests, tree species, timber quality and responsible forest management — built to expand later with more articles, maps or FAQs.

Suriname's forests

Most of Suriname is covered by tropical rainforest, with a wide variety of tree species and growth forms.

Tree species & timber quality

Each timber species has its own properties — density, colour and durability — which determine what it's suited for.

Forestry & selective logging

In selective logging, trees are harvested individually so the surrounding forest stays intact and can recover.

The importance of biodiversity

A healthy forest with many species of plants and animals is more resilient and supports a stable ecosystem.

Always consult the relevant Surinamese authorities or a legal advisor for current legal requirements regarding forestry and logging.
